Westports Malaysia Sdn Bhd (“Westports”) latest expansion, the Westports 2 Container Terminal Expansion from CT10 to CT17, officially commences today with the groundbreaking ceremony officiated by Y.A.B. Dato’ Seri Anwar Bin Ibrahim, the Prime Minister of Malaysia, as he delivered the keynote address to ambassadors from various neighbouring nations, federal and state governments officials, C-suites from local and international companies and senior management and staff of Westports. The expansion is one of the key projects that will ensure Malaysia’s logistics industry is ready for additional FDIs coming into the country.

The Prime Minister shared that the development of Westports 2 reflects the Unity Government’s commitment towards fostering collaborative public-private partnerships. He elaborated on the core of the Malaysia MADANI vision, which focuses on problem-solving, meeting the people’s needs, and building a peaceful and prosperous future for Malaysia. Westports 2 will strengthen the country’s economic standing and improve the standard of living for the Rakyat while reaffirming Malaysia’s place as a leading regional economy.

Datuk Ruben Emir Gnanalingam bin Abdullah, Executive Chairman and Group Managing Director of Westports, echoed, “Westports 2 is more than just an expansion. This project is critical to meeting the growing demands of global trade and ensuring that we continue to play a leading role in the industry. It is a testament to our commitment to staying at the forefront of the global maritime industry. We are focused on growing in size and doing so sustainably, with initiatives prioritising environmental stewardship and innovation. The expansion project will incorporate sustainable practices and the latest technologies, ensuring we remain competitive while minimising our environmental impact.”

Westports also celebrated its 30th anniversary with a Gala Dinner in the prior evening, graced by Yang Berhormat Loke Siew Fook, the Minister of Transport Malaysia, as the Company expressed its appreciation and recognition to clients, partners, vendors and stakeholders that have contributed to its success.

The Minister of Transport Malaysia shared that the regulatory and policy framework has supported Westports’ development. The Ministry of Transport (MOT), Unit Kerjasama Awam Swasta (UKAS), Selangor State Government, Port Klang Authority (PKA), and Majlis Bandaraya DiRaja Klang (MBdK) have been vital partners to Westports’ growth. He added that the port’s alignment with government initiatives underscores its role as a strategic asset in enhancing Malaysia’s trade connectivity and improving the nation’s logistics efficiency. Meanwhile, during the Company’s 30th anniversary Gala Dinner, the Malaysia Book Of Records certified Westports for having the longest linear berth, with a total length of 6,585 metres.
