This year marks the 28th anniversary of Westports Malaysia from when it began operating in 1994. Hence, I would like to take this opportunity to convey my greatest gratitude and appreciation to all our partners for your business and relentless support over the past several years. I’m deeply thankful by your endless contribution in promoting Port Klang, Westports Malaysia, in particular, as the preferred port of call in this region. We are grateful as we will not be where we are today without your support and once again, Thank You.
For the last 27 years, Westports have always indulged in being a customer – orientated organisation and we believed that one of the key factor in serving our customers is in terms of productivity. Westports is able to achieve one of the highest productivity in the world in terms of container moves per hour (“mph”), averaging 35 mph per crane compared to the industry standard of 27 mph, which translates to faster turnaround for vessels that makes our port their home. We are not resting on our current achievements as we are continuing to challenge ourselves daily in order to raise our performance bar, delivering our utmost best in the commitment that we have pledged to all esteemed partners.
Our container volume has grown tremendously over the years and we are the leading terminal operator, controlling approximately 80% of the market share in container volume in Port Klang. We have handled 10.86 million twenty – foot equivalent units (“TEUs”) container throughput and 9.87 million metric tonnes of bulk cargo in 2019.
In 2020, the company recorded container volume of 10.5 million TEUs marking us the first and only terminal in Malaysia has handled above 10 million TEUs in a calendar year. For the same period, the conventional cargo recorded 10.9 million tonnes.
With the philosophy of supply driven we have completed all 9 container terminals which are fully operational in order to have contiguous quay length of 5.8 kilometers and 65 ship – to – shore cranes, therefore having the capacity to handle up to 14 million TEUs annually. We have obtained Approval-in-Principal from our Government to build an additional 10 container terminals i.e. CT10 – CT19 and once the expansion plan is completed, we will have a total handling capacity of 30 mil TEUs per year.
As much as we are grateful to all our partners and customers, we will never forget our multi – skilled and hardworking workforce. Westports is a truly Malaysian Port as we have more than 5,000 employees in the company all being Malaysian and many of them are from the island where Westports Malaysia is situated, Pulau Indah. The high percentage of poor and poverty in the island has been reduced drastically hence making us a truly Corporate Social Responsibility Malaysian Port.
As the Executive Chairman of Westports Malaysian, I would like to express my gratitude and appreciation to all my friends and business partners around the world for the last 27 years. I’m looking forward to the next 25 years on how we can further grow our business and strengthen our relationship. YOU are the one that has made us the Mega Hub in the region.
“THANK YOU FOR MAKING IT POSSIBLE!”
